About
Christopher Bird is a painter based in Ozark, Missouri. He has lived in several cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, and Lisbon, and those places continue to find their way into his work.
His paintings aren't about getting everything exactly right. He's more interested in mood, memory, and the feeling a place or person leaves behind.
Texture, shadow, and a sense of restraint are important to his process. He finds inspiration in travel, street life, aging objects, and the ordinary things that become meaningful over time.
Much of his work circles around identity, change, and memory — and what he calls “the fear of losing the thread”: that feeling of trying to hold on to a sense of purpose and connection as life changes.
Alongside painting, Bird continues to photograph and write. For him, the three mediums are simply different ways of looking at the same things.
